Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarship opportunities are displayed below. Please check with building counselors for scholarship guidance. In addition, there are online scholarship matching services and college search services available for students and families. Fastweb, Student Scholarships and SuperCollege are websites that provide these services.

  • Dombo-Fielder Communication Scholarship for Women
    (applications due by Apr 30, 2014)
    • Dombo Fielder Scholarship Application
    • The Dombo-Fielder Communications Scholarship for Women is for female graduates of Akron public or parochial high schools interested in studying communication at a four-year Ohio public college. It is a one-year, $1,000 scholarship, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year. For more information, download the application.

  • Anne Petry Scholarship

    • Anne Petry Scholarship App
    • The Anne Petry Scholarship was established by the Summit Education Partnership Foundation to support one $1,000 scholarship per year for an APS student who will attend college to study special education.

  • Maple Leaf Dentistry Scholarship

      To be eligible, a student must: be attending school at the undergraduate level in the fall of 2014 in any program (high school seniors who will graduate in 2014 are eligible); have done at least 100 hours of volunteer work over the last two years; and have a 3.0 or higher GPA in his/her last academic year.   • Abbott and Fenner Scholarship

      Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants will award up to a $1,000 scholarship. Students must submit an essay on the topic at www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. More information may be found on the website.

  • BigSun Scholarship
    (applications due by Jun 20, 2014)

      The BigSun Organization is offering an annual $500 scholarship. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of their sport. For more information or to apply, visit www.bigsunathletics.com.

  • Bradley R. Corbett Scholarship
    (applications due by Jul 15, 2014)

      The annual $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to the student who submits the best overall essay on one of the following topics: 1. How will you further benefit our society by obtaining a degree?; 2. Why is there a high correlation between the level of education attained by an incarcerated person and his or her recidivism rate?; or 3. How does education help break the cycle of poverty?     • The Akron Community Foundation's Acorn Scholarship Fund provides two annual scholarships to one male and one female APS graduate pursuing a four-year degree at an accredited college or university.

    • Three VFW scholarships are available in the amount of $2,000 each per year. Each scholarship is non-renewable.

  • William F. Gandert OHAC Scholarship

    • OHAC encourages academic excellence and personal and community responsibility among all scholarship applicants. The OHAC Scholarship Committee will offer up to six (6) annual scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for students enrolling in or attending an accredited college, university, community college, technical school or vocational school.

      The annual Frame My Future Scholarship contest is open to any student who plans to attend a U.S. college/university as a full-time student for the 2014-15 academic year and is a legal U.S. resident. Applicants must submit an original creation using the theme "This is how I Frame My Future." A total of $6,000 in college scholarships will be awarded (five winners of $1,000, with the Grand Prize Simmer earning an additional $1,000 donation to their 2014 attended college/university).   • Ruhlin-Panzica-Jenkins Scholarship

    • Ruhlin-Panzica-Jenkins (RPJ) offers a $2,500 scholarship to students who are pursuing post-secondary training in the career fields of construction, engineering or architecture. The $2500 scholarship is divided over a two-year period ($1,250/year).

    • Seniors may apply for this scholarship (application is free) which could award them up to $10,000 each year of undergraduate school for a total of up to $40,000. Multiple students are awarded this scholarship each year.

  • Alumni Freshman Scholarship and Robert C. Romans Biology Scholarship

    • These are two separate scholarships, and the deadline for both is February 10, 2014. One or more of these scholarships are given annually to outstanding incoming first-year students who have been admitted to BGSU with a declared major in biology.

  • Optimist Club of Akron Scholarship

      The Optimist Club of Akron is holding an Oratorical Contest ("How My Passions Impact the World") and an Essay Contest ("How Dreams Lead to Success") for the opportunity to win a $3,500 scholarship. Both contests are open to any student under the age of 19 who has not graduated from high school. Deadlines for submission are February 7 (essay entries) and February 22 (oratorical entries).   • Public Housing Authorities Directors Association Scholarship

    • Three scholarships will be awarded by the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association: $5,000 HD Supply Scholarship, $5,000 Freedom & Civil Rights Scholarship and $7,000 29th Annual Stephen J. Bollinger Memorial Scholarship. The scholarships are open to graduating seniors who are preparing to enter college and who are currently residing in a PHADA member agency.

  • Margot Eiseman Scholarship

      The Margot Eiseman Scholarship established by the Artists of Rubber City is open to college-bound high school seniors majoring in art or art education who live in Summit county.   • Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Scholarship
    (applications due by Dec 30, 2013)

      To be eligible, a student must: be between the ages of 16 and 22 on December 30, 2013; must possess a 2.5 or higher GPA in his/her last academic year; and must have contributed at least 50 hours of volunteer (non-paid) service within his/her community over the last 12 months.       To be eligible, a student must have completed a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer work over the past two years; must have maintained a 3.5 or greater GPA over the past two years; and must be under the age of 21 on the day of the deadline.       Spokeo, a people search platform and a pioneer in reverse phone look-up technology, is searching for exemplary students who demonstrate a desire to find and achieve their own dreams.   • Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

      The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is offering a new college scholarship program. Recipients may receive up to $30,000/year to attend a four-year undergraduate institution, pursue any area of study, take advantage of advising on selection of a college and navigation of financial aid, and have the opportunity to network with the JKCF Scholar community.   • College Now Greater Cleveland - Opportunities for Adult Learners

    • Two fliers are available regarding opportunities from College Now Greater Cleveland to assist adult learners or non-traditional students with post-secondary admissions and financial aid. An Adult Learner Scholarship is available for the 2014 spring term, open to any students over the age of 19 who has one year interruption in their education.   • Horatio Alger Scholarship

      Receive up to $21,000 in the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs by: being enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the U.S., progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer 2014 with plans to enter a U.S. college no later than the fall following graduation; and exhibit a strong commitment to completing a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private U.S. institution.
